A measure creating a zone of safety for Oklahoma children has been sent to the governor for his consideration. Senate Bill by Senator Jonathan Nichols, RNorman, and coauthored by Representative Kevin Cox, DOKC, would prohibit any person convicted of lewd molestation, rape or sodomy from being within three hundred feet of a school, child care facility or playground.
Schools and playgrounds are considered to be safe places for our children, but we need to be sure of this. With this new law, were telling child molesters to keep out and stay away, explained Senator Nichols. read more.

Senator Keith Leftwich DOklahoma City author of two important election bills that will work to improve the election process in our state announced that Senate Bill 20 and Senate Bill 3 were signed into law by Governor Brad Henry.
Both bills deal with Oklahomas election process with SB 20 dealing with statewide elections and SB 3 addressing the date of the Presidential Primary. read more.

Democrats Support Hobson for Second Two-year Term as
President Pro Tempore

 

Senate President Pro Tempore Cal Hobson confirmed Tuesday that he has secured unanimous support from fellow Democrats for a second two-year term as the leader of the Oklahoma State Senate. The Lexington Democrat said that every member of the Democratic caucus has provided him with an official pledge card, promising to support his election to the top Senate post in January 2005.

A measure to increase public awareness of Hepatitis C has been signed into law by Governor Brad Henry. Senator Angela Monson is principal author of SB which was coauthored by Representative Opio Toure. The legislation directs the State Commissioner of Health to convene a task force on the disease. read more.
