A measure to better equip educators to recognize and address the mental health needs of students has received Senate approval and will now be considered by the House. Senate Bill 446, by Sen. John Haste, would require the State Department of Education and the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services to develop educator training programs on student mental health.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. John Haste has been chosen to serve on several key committees in the Oklahoma State Senate.  Senate President Pro Tempore-designate Greg Treat announced the appointments Friday.

            The freshman Republican will serve on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services as well as the Retirement and Insurance, Education, and Veterans and Military Affairs Committees.

John Haste is now officially on the job as State Senator for District 36.  The Broken Arrow Republican was sworn in during a ceremony at the Capitol on Wednesday alongside friends, family and other supporters in the Senate Chamber.
