Senator John Haste was born in Arkansas, raised in west Tennessee, and now lives in Broken Arrow. He attended the University of Tennessee at Martin. He retired at the end of 2022 as Senior Vice President of a Home Furnishings Company. In 2010, John received a pro tempore appointment to the Oklahoma State University Medical Authority and Trust, where he has served as vice chair and chair. He was chair when he resigned to take his oath of office representing District 36 in the Oklahoma Senate in November of 2018.
Within the Oklahoma Senate, John serves as chair of both Aeronautics and Transportation and the Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government and Transportation and vice chair of Health and Human Services. He also serves on the Appropriations, Business and Commerce, and Rules Committees.
John served on the Joint Committee on Pandemic Relief Funding and was co-chair of the Working Group for Health and Human Services. He was appointed as co-chair of the Concurrent Enrollment Task Force. John was appointed to serve on the Select Committee on Business Retention Economic Development and the Opioid Commission.
Nationally, John serves on the Health and Human Service Committee for the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) and is the vice chair of NCSL’s Health Innovation Task Force. He also serves on the Education Committee for the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC).
He is also the co-chair of the International Home Furnishings Association Advisory Board for the City of Hope, a research development and caring facility for patients with cancer and Type 1 diabetes.
In addition, John serves on the executive board of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for Northeast Oklahoma.
John and his wife Jennifer are members and actively serve at the First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow. They have one son, Nate, and daughter-in-law, Camille and grand-puppy, Ella.
