OKLAHOMA CITY – Senate Democratic Leader Kay Floyd released the following statement after the Oklahoma Supreme Court’s ruling supporting the Legislature’s authority to override vetoes of tribal compacting bills.

“As a Senator who serves on the Joint Committee on Tribal Relations and as an attorney, I was confident that the Legislature would prevail and that the Supreme Court would find we were well within our constitutional authority. It was critical for us to enact this legislation in order to facilitate positive resolutions with our Tribal Nations.

“I applaud the justices for their work, and hope that our state can turn its attention to restoring relationships to the benefit of all our citizens.” – Senate Democratic Leader Kay Floyd, D-Oklahoma City.
