Senate Appropriations Chair Thompson issues statement on selection of Allison D. Garrett as the next higher education chancellor

OKLAHOMA CITY – Senate Appropriations Chair Roger Thompson, R-Okemah, issued the following statement on Friday after it was announced that national higher education and business leader Allison D. Garrett had been chosen as the next chancellor of the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education, succeeding Chancellor Glen D. Johnson.

“I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to Allison D. Garrett for her selection as Oklahoma’s ninth higher education chancellor—the first woman ever named to that post.  Her leadership and experience span both higher education and the corporate sector.  That unique background will result in innovations and efficiencies that will shape and enhance our higher education system well into the future. I look forward to working with her.

“I also want to extend thanks to Chancellor Glen D. Johnson for his many years of service and leadership. His integrity and vision have been invaluable. We are grateful for his dedication to our colleges and universities and know that Chancellor-elect Garrett will build on those accomplishments.”
