Sen. Weaver takes oath of office, begins second term

OKLAHOMA CITY – State Sen. Darrell Weaver is back on the job for a second term in the Oklahoma Senate.  Weaver, R-Moore, was unopposed for the Senate District 24 seat and was automatically re-elected.  He was sworn in during a ceremony in the Senate Chamber on Wednesday which was attended by family and friends.  Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell presided, and Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justice Richard Darby administered the oath.

“I’m humbled and honored to continue my service on behalf of the citizens of Senate District 24. When I first came to the Senate, I brought with me a lifetime of experience in public safety, and I’ve had tremendous success passing legislation to better protect law-abiding citizens and support Oklahoma’s law enforcement community,” Weaver said.  “These will continue to be top priorities for me in the next four years.”

Weaver’s accomplishments include the passage of legislation expanding state law determining who can obtain a protective order, and a measure ensuring victims of human trafficking and child abduction can get help through Oklahoma’s Address Confidentiality Program so that criminals cannot find their whereabouts through government records.  He authored legislation signed into law to protect the confidentiality of undercover law officers, and a bill aimed at reducing workplace violence against health care professionals.  Weaver also passed legislation to help law enforcement to expand the state’s wiretap law to include investigations of child sexual predators, and strengthened Oklahoma’s law on the circumstances for charging an individual with accessory to murder, named for fallen Tulsa police officer, Sgt. Craig Johnson.

Weaver currently services as the chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety and Judiciary, vice chair of both Public Safety and General Government, and holds seats on the Judiciary Committee and the full Senate Appropriations Committee.

The full Senate will meet for an organizational day on Jan. 3, and formally convene the 2023 legislative session on Feb. 6.
