Hamilton’s legislation extends certification period for commercial poultry waste applicators

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee approved Senate Bill 1442. Sen. Warren Hamilton, R-McCurtain, authored the bill that extends the certification period for commercial poultry waste applicators from one calendar year to five years.

Under current law, poultry waste applicators must complete an application and submit a $15 fee for a certificate that must be renewed annually. Hamilton’s bill would allow the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry to issue permits that are valid for five years for a registration fee of $75.

“This bill will aid many poultry litter applicators across the state by simplifying the process to apply for this permit, without any changes to the costs over the extended certification period,” Hamilton said. “This is a simple adjustment we can make to benefit these individuals and businesses.”  

Hamilton’s bill is now eligible for consideration by the full Senate. If signed into law, the five-year permits would be available beginning Jan. 1, 2025.
