Garvin statement on Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade

Sen. Jessica Garvin, R-Duncan, released the following statement Friday after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled to overturn the landmark case of Roe v. Wade. 

“This is a historic moment in our nation. The Supreme Court has rightly returned this critical issue to the states, where it belongs. As the most pro-life state in the union, we have always fought to protect the rights of the unborn. Fortunately, in anticipation of this ruling, we already have numerous laws on the books, and we will continue to protect the sanctity of life. 

“I am committed to protecting life, but life does not stop when a child is born. Life starts at conception and protection shouldn’t end when a child is able to take his or her first breath or speak for themselves. I hope that Oklahomans can peacefully engage with those on both sides of this issue to find meaningful ways to be pro-life, from conception through natural death. I look forward to being a part of those discussions and solutions.”
