Burns urges citizens to attend public forum on US-259 project

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. George Burns is urging citizens to attend a forum hosted by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to discuss road construction on US-259. From 5:00-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, constituents and elected officials are invited to share their opinions on how to best improve this heavily traveled roadway. The meeting will be held at the Broken Bow Senior High School auditorium.

“I hope local residents will attend this meeting and share any ideas or concerns they have about this project,” said Burns, R-Pollard. “As the Broken Bow/Hochatown area continues to grow, it is important that our roads are safe and as well-maintained as possible. I look forward to this meeting and learning about what improvements could be made to this busy highway.”

This project seeks to improve the section of US-259 beginning over six miles north of SH-3 and extending north six miles. The highway currently only consists of two lanes with variable shoulders and quickly deteriorating pavement. ODOT has expressed concerns that this roadway is no longer meeting the needs of this popular tourist area and wants to ensure its continued safety.
