OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Senate on Thursday approved legislation that is the culmination of years of work to rewrite Oklahoma’s criminal code.

After three years of studying the state’s criminal code and several more years working on legislation to bring greater consistency and uniformity to criminal sentencing, the Senate gave final passage to a one-of-a-kind measure to overhaul felony sentencing in Oklahoma.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Senate on Tuesday passed a bill to prohibit public school employees from using corporal punishment on disabled students.

In a 31-11 vote, the Senate passed House Bill 1028 from Rep. John Talley, R-Stillwater, and Sen. Dave Rader, R-Tulsa, that prevents school personnel from hitting, slapping, paddling or inflicting any kind of physical pain on disabled students.

OKLAHOMA CITY- Sen. Dave Rader, R-Tulsa, was named a 2023 recipient of the University of Tulsa’s Distinguished Alumni award. Rader was honored during the university’s homecoming festivities, held Nov. 2-4.

The full Senate has given unanimous approval to a measure that would further protect stalking victims.

Under current state law, if a victim is stalked by a stranger, they must first file a complaint with a law enforcement agency before they can file a protective order. Authored by Sen. Dave Rader, R-Tulsa, Senate Bill 1674 would remove this requirement and allow any stalking victim – whether they know their perpetrator or not – to file a protective order without prior documentation of stalking behavior.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Treat, R-Oklahoma City, on Thursday announced the Senate appointments to the newly created Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR).

Previously, Treat named Sen. Julie Daniels, R-Bartlesville, as co-chair of the joint committee made up of members from the Senate and the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Senate leaders on Wednesday made public the new district maps and the chair of the redistricting committee says the open and transparent process this time produced better maps.

The Senate has given approval to a measure aimed at combatting traumatic brain injuries (TBI) by creating the Advisory Council on Traumatic Brain Injury to further study the issue.
