Sen. Bullard releases statement supporting House Bill 1775 amidst ACLU lawsuit

OKLAHOMA CITY – State Sen. David Bullard, R-Durant, released the following statement supporting House Bill 1775, which prevents schools from teaching certain theories, such as one race or sex is superior to the other, after the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed suit to block the measure in Oklahoma.

“Recently, the ACLU filed a lawsuit to try and stop a law that as passed in our most recent legislative session. House Bill 1775 was signed into law by Governor Stitt earlier this year and protects our children across the state from being taught revisionist history and that ‘one race or sex is inherently superior to another race or sex,’ or that ‘an individual, by virtue of his or her race or sex, is inherently racist, sexist or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously.’

“The ACLU and other radical liberal politicians and activists assured us that Critical Race Theory (CRT) was not being taught and there was no intent to ever teach this horrible doctrine in the future. This lawsuit by the ACLU is proof positive that this law was in fact necessary to protect our children from this radical indoctrination. No child should be taught that they should be ashamed due to the pigmentation of their skin, and no child should be told they are responsible for the actions of the past.

“It is also false that the bill prohibits the teaching of racial topics or history. The bill says, ‘the provisions of this subsection shall not prohibit the teaching of concepts that align to the Oklahoma Academic Standards.’ If one believes they must shame a student for their race or sex, or convince them there is a superior race, or any of the other concepts mentioned in the bill, they do not need to be teaching kids.

“I’m very proud of HB 1775 and I’m confident the law will hold up in court. I will continue to fight to protect all our children from the radical views and indoctrination of leftists. With your help, we will ensure that all schools in Oklahoma are for educating our children at the highest level possible and that indoctrination is eliminated from every campus and classroom.”
