OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma House of Representatives and the State Senate redistricting offices have scheduled two virtual town hall meetings on the legislative redistricting process to answer questions and take comments from the public in real time.
The virtual meetings are scheduled for: 6 p.m., Monday, Dec 21, and 6 p.m., Monday, Jan. 25
The meeting links and additional details can be found here: https://www.okhouse.gov/Publications/VirtualMeets.aspx.
No signup required, and everyone is welcome.
“These meetings are for anyone who wanted to attend one of the 18 in-person town halls held across Oklahoma but was not able to or did not feel safe doing so because of health concerns,” said State Rep. Ryan Martinez, R-Edmond, chair of the House Redistricting Committee. “It’s important that even during this pandemic we still receive public input into this process and that we answer any and all questions people may have.”
“We will be covering the same information covered at all of our in-person town halls,” said State Sen. Lonnie Paxton, R-Tuttle, chair of the Senate Select Committee on Redistricting. “This ensures we have thorough and vital input from the public and offers even greater transparency into our work.”
By law, the Legislature must redraw its legislative and congressional district boundaries to reflect changes in population every ten years immediately following the decennial Census.
The Oklahoma House of Representatives and Oklahoma Senate are holding a series of town halls throughout the state in December and January to encourage public input in the redistricting process. The meetings are open to anyone who would like to attend.
Meetings are livestreamed when possible, and video is archived. Previous House meetings can be viewed here: https://okhouse.gov/Video/Default.aspx and Senate meetings can be viewed here: https://oksenate.gov/live-chamber.
Anyone unable to attend the meeting may email comments to the House at redistrictoklahoma2020@okhouse.gov, Senate at redistricting@oksenate.gov, or contact their state representative or state senator. All comments and public testimony will be shared with the committees.
