Tom Woods sworn into first term in Oklahoma Senate

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Tom Woods has officially been sworn in as the state Senator for District 4 after an oath of office ceremony Wednesday, presided over by Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell. The oath was delivered by Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justice Richard Darby. Woods was joined in the Senate Chamber by his family, friends and supporters.

“I’m honored to represent the citizens of District 4 and thank them for trusting me to be their voice at the state Capitol,” Woods said. “I grew up in Adair County on a dairy farm, and I’m still heavily involved in agriculture and other related businesses. I am proud to support Oklahoma producers and encourage the younger generations to take part in feeding our nation and passing on the rural way of life.”

Woods said his priorities in the Senate would include fighting government red tape and overreach, tax reform, and ensuring all children receive a quality education. The Westville Republican said he favors greater resources for the classroom including increasing teacher pay. Woods also supports transparency and accountability in government, and said he would advocate for constitutional freedoms, especially for the unborn, and would staunchly defend the Second Amendment.

The Senate will meet for an organizational day on Jan. 3, with the regular legislative session beginning on Feb. 6.
