Stanley takes oath, begins first Senate term

State Senator Brenda Stanley is now officially on the job as State Senator for District 42. The Oklahoma City Republican was sworn in during a ceremony at the Capitol on Wednesday as friends, family and other supporters watched from inside the Senate Chamber.

“I am grateful to the citizens of District 42 for trusting me to be their voice at the State Capitol,” Stanley said. “I’m looking forward to promoting legislation to expand our economy and generate more resources for education, public safety, transportation and other core services. Education is one of my greatest passions and I’m ready to get to work finding real solutions in the areas that have always challenged our state.”

Prior to her election to the State Senate, Stanley achieved numerous milestones in her professional career in education. She earned her Administration Certification from the University of Central Oklahoma and served as principal at Cleveland Bailey Elementary School in the Mid-Del School District from 1996-2006 and at Westfall Elementary in the Choctaw/Nicoma Park School District from 2006 until her retirement in 2016. Most recently, she has served as a project manager for Kid’s College & Teen Scene at Rose State College as well as a supervisor of Teacher Education Services at UCO’s College of Education and Professional Services.

Senate President Pro Tempore Designate Greg Treat said he was looking forward to working with Stanley.

“Senator Stanley represents the core values that make Oklahoma great. Her professional experience in education will be a valued asset to our caucus. I am confident Senator Stanley will be a strong voice on behalf of District 42 in the State Senate,” said Treat, R-Oklahoma City.

The Senate will hold a one day organizational meeting on January 8, and the 2019 session will formally get underway on February 4.
