State Sen. Darrell Weaver has been appointed to four Senate committees for the 57th Legislature. Weaver, R-Moore, will serve on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Energy, the Public Safety Committee and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety and Judiciary.
“I’m very pleased with my committee assignments. As former director of the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, my life has been dedicated to protecting law-abiding citizens from criminals whose activities literally destroyed lives. I know first-hand how the public policy created at the Capitol is vital in supporting the public safety mission of law enforcement across the state,” Weaver said. “My seats on the Judiciary and Public Safety Committees as well as the Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety and Judiciary allow me to put my expertise to work as we make public policy and appropriations decisions.”
Weaver also welcomed his assignment to the Senate Energy Committee.
“The energy sector remains one our top economic drivers, employing countless Oklahomans in well-paying jobs throughout the state,” Weaver said. “But the issues that impact energy are often complex—we must approach them thoughtfully and consider the unintended consequences of each action that is proposed. I look forward to my work on that committee.”
Currently, Weaver and his fellow members are preparing for the session, working with staff to finalize legislation to be considered in 2019. The Senate will have a one-day organizational meeting on January 8 and reconvene the session on February 4. All Senate committees must conclude their work on bills introduced in that chamber by February 28.
