Senator Silk resigns recent appointment to Hochatown incorporation committee

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Citing concerns over a conflict of interest, Senator Joseph Silk, R-Broken Bow, has resigned his recent appointment to the Hochatown Incorporation committee.  Silk was appointed earlier this week to the 7-person committee formed to address the annexation of Hochatown from Broken Bow.  The committee is currently discussing ways to prevent the annexation, as well as the option to incorporate Hochatown.

“While I am honored to serve the people of southeastern Oklahoma, I resigned my appointment to the Hochatown committee out of respect to my position as an elected official who represents all of Senate district 5,” said Silk.  “The annexation and incorporation process will likely involve influences such as state grants and tourism interests, and I would never want any of those actions to lead to a conflict of interest.  I am proud to represent all of the constituents of McCurtain County and want to remain impartial and unbiased in the work I do for our district.  I am excited about the growth in our area and offer any services or advice I can provide, and plan on remaining an active and engaged citizen in this process.”
