OKLAHOMA CITY— State Senator Roger Thompson, R-Okemah, was recently appointed to serve on the Education Committee of the Southern Legislative Conference. Thompson was chosen to serve earlier this month by Senate Pro Tem Brian Bingman.
Sen. Thompson was elected to serve in District 8 of the Oklahoma State Senate in November, 2014, which includes Okmulgee and McIntosh counties, as well as parts of Okfuskee and Muskogee counties. In addition to serving on the Senate Appropriations committee, he also currently sits on the Education and Judiciary committees, as well as Business and Commerce. He is also the Vice-Chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government and Transportation.
Thompson is President of the News Leader Company, Inc., which owns and publishes the Okemah News Leader. Thompson and his wife also own Pamela’s Flowers and Okemah Office Supply.
“I’m honored to be named to the SLC education committee and be given the opportunity to make a difference in education,” said Thompson. “I’m looking forward to serving with this outstanding group of leaders who are instrumental in driving the future of education.”
The Southern Legislative Conference was established in 1947 and is comprised of presiding leaders and key legislators from 15 southern states, including Oklahoma.
