Senator Jett Files Legislation to Honor Life and Legacy of Charlie Kirk

OKLAHOMA CITY – Senator Shane Jett, R-Shawnee, has filed legislation in honor of Turning Point USA founder and CEO, Charlie Kirk, who was tragically assassinated on September 10.

“Charlie Kirk was a young, bold voice for truth and a faithful servant of Christ, stolen from us by a vile act of political violence,” Jett said. “Now he stands before the Lord, hearing, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant.’ Our hearts are with his wife and children as they endure this unimaginable loss.”

Jett filed the following bills and resolution in remembrance of Charlie Kirk’s courage and faith; in honor of his extraordinary contributions to American discourse, faith, and freedom; and to commemorate his ultimate sacrifice for these principles:

Senate Bill 1188:  Declares October 14 of each year as “Charlie Kirk Free Speech Day.” On this day, Oklahomans are encouraged to reflect on the principles Kirk championed, participate in educational events promoting civic engagement, and honor his legacy as a martyr for truth and liberty.

Senate Bill 1187: Provides that every institution of higher education within the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education shall designate and develop a prominent area on its main campus as the “Charlie Kirk Memorial Plaza.”

Senate Concurrent Resolution 13: Recognizes Charlie Kirk as a martyr for truth, faith and free speech; honors his unwavering courage in defending American liberties; and declares the commitment to perpetuate his legacy of courage and faith.

“We condemn this evil, and through the introduction of these pieces of legislation in Charlie Kirk’s honor, we will ensure his legacy of courage and conviction lives on in Oklahoma,” Jett added.
