Senator Garvin appointed to Southern Legislative Conference committee

OKLAHOMA CITY – Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Treat, R-Oklahoma City, recently appointed Sen. Jessica Garvin, R-Duncan, to represent Oklahoma on the Human Services & Public Safety Committee of the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) of the Council of State Governments (CSG). The panel includes legislators from the 15 states represented by SLC.

Established in 1947, SLC is a member-driven organization and the largest of the four legislative groups operating under CSG. The organization allows the sharing of policy and practice development among states facing similar challenges and opportunities. The SLC comprises the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.

As an appointee to the committee, Garvin will have access to a variety of legislative services and programs as well as expert assistance in a number of areas.

“I’m incredibly honored to be appointed to this committee and am looking forward to learning from legislators in other states about how they’re addressing important issues like healthcare, economic development and tourism,” Garvin said. “In order to be good stewards of public tax dollars, this type of collaboration is critical to ensure we provide the best public services and programs. We can also learn from others’ mistakes and not repeat them, which will help save time and money.”

In the Oklahoma Senate, Garvin serves on the Health and Human Services; Business, Commerce and Tourism;  Rules and Transportation Committees, as well as the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services.
