OKLAHOMA CITY – Senator Darrell Weaver, R-Moore, received the 2025 Champion for Consumer Protection Award from AARP Oklahoma. Weaver was recognized for legislative excellence in safeguarding consumers from cryptocurrency ATM fraud.
“I am honored to be recognized by AARP Oklahoma for our efforts to protect vulnerable Oklahomans from falling victim to fraudulent and criminal activity involving cryptocurrency ATMs and bitcoin ATMs,” Weaver said.
Weaver carried Senate Bill 1083 in the 2025 legislative session, which was among the first pieces of legislation passed in Oklahoma to combat scams involving digital asset kiosks. The resulting new law, which takes effect Nov. 1, will ensure accountability for those who seek to exploit unknowing users, as well as provide additional safeguards for consumers.
“As cryptocurrency and other technologies continue to advance and expand within our state, I look forward to building on these efforts to ensure we remain proactive in addressing the risks posed to Oklahomans by evolving digital financial tools, while also promoting transparency, education, and consumer safety,” Weaver added.
