Senator Brad Henry Expresses Thanks To Oklahomans For Thoughts And Prayers

OKLAHOMA CITY - Senator Brad Henry is thanking the many Oklahomans who have shared their thoughts, prayers and condolences after the passing of his father, Charles T. Henry. The former legislator died Tuesday from lung cancer at the age of 65.

"I just want to tell everyone how much their kind words and prayers have meant to me and my family. It really does make it a bit easier to cope with our loss," said Senator Henry.

A life-long Pottawatomie resident, Charles T. Henry lived a life of public service and volunteerism. In 1960, at the age of 23, he was elected to the House of Representatives while still in law school at the University of Oklahoma. Henry next was elected Pottawatomie County Judge, serving from 1964 to 1966. In 1972 he was re-elected to the House of Representatives, serving from 1972 until 1976.

In addition, Henry also practiced law, and served as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Absentee Pottowatomi Tribe. He also served as Judge of the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission Board of Review for 11 years, under three different governors. He also was legislative liaison to the House for Governor George Nigh.

In addition, Charles Henry volunteered for many youth oriented organizations, and helped found a chapter of Big Brothers and Big Sisters as well as coaching children's sports. He also won numerous awards, including Outstanding Young Oklahoman in 1964 and Outstanding Young Man in America in 1967.

"My father was an amazing man who devoted his life to public service. This is a tremendous loss, and yet I'm mindful of how much there is in his life and accomplishments to celebrate. I'm very proud that he's my father," said Senator Henry.

Funeral Services will be held this Friday, May 25th, 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Shawnee.
