OKLAHOMA CITY – Senate President Pro Tempore Brian Bingman recently appointed Sen. Frank Simpson to the National Conference of State Legislature’s (NCSL) Veterans and Military Affairs Task Force. The task force examines issues affecting military-community relations and the health and well-being of veterans.
“With his strong military background, I believe Senator Simpson will make an outstanding addition to this group,” said Bingman, R-Sapulpa. “He has worked hard to improve services for Oklahoma’s veterans, and I look forward to hearing the committee’s ideas on how to better serve our military community on a national level.”
Many issues will be covered by the task force this year including development near military installations; military-community partnerships to respond to mission change; veteran hiring and procurement preferences; mental health, substance abuse and family relationships facing returning veterans; and benefits for military personnel, veterans and their dependents.
“Our veterans do so much for our country and they deserve better than what they’ve been getting.
We must ensure that they have the best services available to address their emotional, employment, health and retirement needs,” said Simpson, R-Ardmore. “It has been an honor to represent the needs of my fellow Oklahoma veterans, and I’m looking forward to collaborating with legislators from around the country on how we can better serve our American heroes.”
The task force meets annually to discuss veterans issues.
