OKLAHOMA CITY – Senate Democratic Leader Julia Kirt issued the following statement after Friday’s Board of Equalization’s certification for Fiscal Year 2027, showing there will be 4.5 percent less to appropriate compared to Fiscal Year 2026, in addition to the state facing federal cuts as well.
“While we need to be making sure Oklahomans have strong public schools, access to life saving health care, and affordable child care, those in charge were too busy taking care of the wealthy and powerful.
“Eight hundred slots for children in child care were lost in the last two months alone. Rural hospitals are on the brink of closing. And hundreds of thousands of hard-working Oklahomans could get stripped of health care because the folks in charge prioritized tax giveaways to giant corporations and the wealthiest among us.
“It’s time to start prioritizing people over politics.” – Senate Democratic Leader Julia Kirt, D-Oklahoma City.
