Senate Advances Guthrie’s Legislation

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Brian Guthrie, R-Bixby, successfully advanced two key pieces of legislation off the Senate floor this week, Senate Bills 20 and 368. Both bills received unanimous support and will now advance to the House of Representatives.

Senate Bill 20 authorizes street-legal utility vehicles to travel on U.S. highways with a posted speed limit of 50 mph or less.

“The passage of this bill puts us one step closer to improving connectivity for UTV drivers in Bixby and communities across the state,” Guthrie said. “This measure will ensure that a highway’s status will not limit UTV operators’ ability to travel within their community to visit local businesses, attend community events, or participate in recreational activities. I’m proud to see this bill move forward and excited to continue working to improve transportation options for Bixby and beyond.”

Senate Bill 368 modifies the legal definition of a kayak to include propulsion using double-bladed paddles, hand cranks, or pedals.

“This measure simply updates legal definitions to reflect what outdoor enthusiasts are currently using today. I appreciate my colleagues' support of this measure that ensures all kayaks are classified under the same standards and definitions within our laws,” Guthrie said.

Guthrie also advanced two bills out of Senate committees, Senate Bills 491 and 354.

Senate Bill 491 passed unanimously out of the Senate Judiciary Committee. The measure would allow public bodies to enter executive sessions for all real estate transactions, including the sale, lease, or acquisition of real property.

The Senate Local and County Government Committee unanimously approved Senate Bill 354, which removes outdated requirements for municipalities to provide free printed copies of their ordinances to their county law library.

“I look forward to continuing to work on these pieces of legislation that will help streamline operations, enhance efficiency, and ensure that our local governments are better equipped to serve the needs of our communities,” Guthrie added.

Senate Bills 491 and 354 are now eligible for consideration by the full Senate.
