Statement by Senator Stratton Taylor,
Senate President Pro Tempore
"All in all, I think it was a very productive session. Certainly, we didn't solve every problem on the horizon, but no Legislature ever does. We did do a number of things to improve our state and make life better for the average Oklahoman, from putting more resources into public school classrooms to providing tax relief for working families. Certainly in terms of its conclusion, this may have been one of the most orderly sessions that I have ever experienced at the State Capitol."
"One of the things that was very important but won't show up in the Senate record books was the spirit of bipartisan cooperation that marked this session. By working together in the Senate, we were able to pass a bipartisan redistricting plan, a broad-based tax relief program, a funding increase for education and a host of other important pieces of legislation."
"I continue to look forward to receiving the 'Texas Plan' report from OU and OSU researchers. With the help of Governor Keating and House Speaker Larry Adair, we have arranged it so the Legislature can return for an inexpensive one-day special session later this summer or fall to address the report and its recommendations, in addition to completing work on congressional redistricting."
