Sen. Shaw applauds Dahlonegah Public Schools for healthy policies

Last week, Sen. Wayne Shaw applauded recent steps by Dahlonegah Public Schools to improve the health of their students, faculty and staff. He said he hopes other school districts take note of their efforts and work to make their own schools healthier.

“Dahlonegah Public Schools is to be commended for all of their hard work and dedication to improving the health of their district,” said Shaw, R-Grove. “Healthy bodies and minds are crucial for success in the classroom. And by getting involved, faculty and staff are not only improving their own health but also being great role models for the students. I hope more school districts will follow in Dahlonegah Public Schools’ footsteps in promoting healthier lifestyles and learning environments.”

The district received a $13,500 grant through the TSET Healthy Schools Incentive Grant program on Wednesday.

“I want to thank TSET for their vision and work to improve the health of all Oklahomans, especially our youth,” said Shaw. “Small schools, like Dahlonegah, typically don’t have a lot of extra funds for extracurricular activities and equipment so these grants are a special gift that will help students feel better and improve their focus, attitudes and behavior in school.”
