Sen. Sharp holds best REID record after nearly decade in legislature

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Ron Sharp has received his fourth perfect REID score following the 2020 legislative session.  After eight years in office, the Shawnee Republican continues to be the business community’s top champion in the legislature supporting and advocating for legislation that promotes job creation and economic growth. Sharp holds a cumulative REID score of 96. Only one legislator has a higher cumulative score, and that is Sen. Tom Dugger but the Stillwater Republican has only served four years in the legislature.

“Supporting Oklahoma’s various industries and businesses is crucial to the future economic growth and health of our state. This is what supports our vital state services and provides jobs for hardworking Oklahoma families,” said Sharp.  “I’m so proud to support our business community, and I applaud their strength and resilience during these difficult times.  I will continue to do all I can to make sure they are protected and have the support they need to prosper as we work our way through the continuing health pandemic.”

Each year, the non-partisan Research Institute for Economic Development (REID) selects a number of bills that support job creation and economic growth and then grades legislators on their votes.  Legislators earn positive points when they support job creation and economic development issues. Points are deducted when they introduce or vote for legislation that negatively impacts Oklahoma’s business climate.  A score of 70 and above represents a passing grade while 69 and below represents a failing grade. Scores are released in the annual REID Report.
