Sen. Paul Scott Sen. Paul Scott

OKLAHOMA CITY Sen. Paul Scott, R-Duncan, commended student participants in the Duncan Area Youth Engineering Contest, recently hosted by the Duncan Area Economic Development Foundation (DAEDF) on Nov. 21 for 7-12th grade students in the Red River Technology sending school district.

Science, technology, engineering and math careers are growing at a rapid rate, Scott said. It is our duty to ensure our students have every opportunity to flourish in STEM classes and activities. The teachers and schools in Senate District 43 are doing an excellent job preparing our students to embark in STEM field careers by participating in competitions like the Duncan Area Youth Engineering Contest. Im exceptionally proud of the students from Duncan Public Schools, Empire Public Schools, Epic Charter School, Red River Technology Center, Temple Public Schools and Walter Public Schools who chose to further their education by participating in this very competitive event.

Students competed for cash and scholarship awards in the areas of engineering, CO2 car race, overall and peoples choice. The top three overall winners received a scholarship from Cameron University in Lawton. The contest challenges students, teachers and parents by requiring critical thinking, design, drafting and manufacturing skills.
