Sen. Murdock announces state grant for Guymon Municipal Airport

The Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission has approved a state grant for the Guymon Municipal Airport that will fund significant improvements.  State Sen. Casey Murdock said the project will include installing new LED medium intensity runway lights, new electrical vault and home run wiring, upgrade signage to LED, and install an omnidirectional approach lighting system (ODALS) and a flight inspection on the ODALS.

The total cost, based on bids, will be $907,671 and will be funded with $856,777 state grant funds, and $50,894 city matching funds.  Eventually the FAA will reimburse the state via the city for the amount of $144,277.

“The Guymon Municipal Airport is a vital part of not only our transportation infrastructure, but it helps make it possible for economic growth and development.  Having an airport like Guymon makes it possible for local companies to do business, including Seaboard Foods, 5R Companies, Apollo MedFlight,  Love’s Travel Stops, Oklahoma Cardiovascular, Hitch Enterprise, UPS, and many more.,” said Casey, R- Felt.  The economic impact is in the billions with an annually economic activity of $6.1 million, supporting nearly 60 jobs in the community.  You may not realize this, but nearly 3,800 visitors arrive in Guymon ever year throughout the airport, and the airport itself contributes approximately $370,000 in state and local tax revenues every years.

“This is an excited time for the community and the Guymon Municipal Airport as the facility continues to grow and improve, helping the panhandle and the areas we serve become more prosperous.”
