OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Jo Anna Dossett, D-Tulsa, has been honored by the Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS). Dossett was presented with OHS’s 2025 Guardian of History award, given annually to legislators who have advocated to preserve the mission and advance the work of the agency.
“I was so pleased to be named this year’s Guardian of History honoree. It’s been a privilege to work together with OHS to help fund and support the important work they do on behalf of all Oklahomans,” Dossett said.
During the OHS annual award banquet held this past Thursday, Executive Director Trait Thompson expressed gratitude for Dossett’s work on the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee for Natural Resources, whose recommendation for long-needed pay increases for agency employees made it into the final FY ‘25 budget. Dossett acknowledged Thompson’s effective and diligent work with the legislature on behalf of the agency.
The mission of OHS is to collect, preserve, and share the history and culture of the state of Oklahoma and its people. Founded in 1893 by members of the Territorial Press Association to preserve newspapers, OHS has developed numerous collections, programs, research centers, museums, historic homes, and military sites across the state. It is an agency of the state of Oklahoma and a private membership organization governed by a board of directors.
