OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Carri Hicks has received the Outstanding Legislator Award from the Oklahoma Education Association (OEA). Hicks, D-Oklahoma City, was honored for her advocacy of public education. A second generation public school teacher, Hicks said she is proud to fight for Oklahoma’s dedicated public school educators.
“I will always use my voice and my votes on behalf of Oklahoma’s public schools, students, professional educators and staff. The vast majority of Oklahoma children continue to attend public schools, including my own three kids,” Hicks said. “I’ve worked shoulder to shoulder with our amazing teachers and support staff, and I know firsthand how dedicated they are to helping our children reach their potential so they can succeed in school and throughout life. I’m proud of my profession, and grateful to be honored for supporting Oklahoma teachers.”
Hicks is a member of the Senate Education Committee, and holds a master’s in early childhood education. She is also a reading interventionist and has authored and championed legislation to better support literacy efforts in Oklahoma classrooms, improve pay and benefits, address the ongoing teacher shortage, and shine the spotlight on the professionalism and dedication of Oklahoma teachers.
“I appreciate the hard work the Oklahoma Education Association does each and every day on behalf of our students and teachers, and I am grateful for this recognition. Our investments in education are an investment in the lives of Oklahoma children, and in the future of our state. That’s something we should all be fighting for,” Hicks said.
