OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Senate and House today adopted resolutions recognizing the vital contributions of local linemen for their work maintaining Oklahoma’s power grid 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.
Sen. Grant Green, R-Wellston, presented Senate Concurrent Resolution 18 in the Senate and Rep. Mike Dobrinski, R-Okeene, presented House Concurrent Resolution 1022 in the House. They also recognized hardworking linemen who were visiting the Capitol today.
“When severe weather hits and the lights go out, local linemen are often the first on the scene to restore power to homes, businesses, hospitals and emergency services,” said Green, who chairs the Senate Energy Committee. “Linemen work around the clock, often under dangerous conditions, to keep Oklahoma’s electric grid up and running. For that, we are all grateful.”
SCR 18 and HCR 1022 recognize April 21 as National Lineman Appreciation Day and honor linemen as the true heroes of the electric power industry because they often work in dangerous conditions to ensure electricity continues to flow when Oklahomans need it most. The resolution also expresses gratitude to linemen from Public Service Company of Oklahoma, Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company, Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority, the Grand River Dam Authority, local electric cooperatives, Liberty Utilities and all other electric providers.
Dobrinski chairs the House Utilities Committee.
"Whether it's storming, freezing or extreme heat to stress capacity of our grid in Oklahoma, we can count on our linemen to work, sometimes around the clock, to keep power coming to our homes and businesses," Dobrinski said. "I join with all Oklahomans in expressing our appreciation for all their unending commitment to restore service during Oklahoma’s most challenging conditions."
