Sen. Dossett tapped for multiple committee assignments

State Sen. J.J. Dossett will serve on five different Senate committees during the 57th Legislature.  Senate Democratic Leader Designate Kay Floyd has chosen Dossett to serve on the full Senate Appropriations Committee, the Appropriations Subcommittee on Natural Resources and Regulatory Services, the Agriculture and Wildlife Committee, the Education Committee, and the Veterans and Military Affairs Committee.

“It’s definitely a full schedule but I’m looking forward to it.  These are areas that are extremely important to the people of Senate District 34.  I’m honored to be their voice as I work with my fellow members to promote public policy that improves the lives of our citizens,” said Dossett, D-Owasso.

A former educator, Dossett said it was critical for the Legislature to reaffirm and build on the commitments made in the 2018 session.

“The raises approved last session were a good start, but there is more to be done.  Leaders of both parties and the governor-elect have all stated education continues to be a top priority.  We must back those words up with the resources our schools need to attract and keep the best teachers and offer the highest quality education possible for Oklahoma children,” Dossett said.

Dossett said he was extremely pleased to have a seat on the full Appropriations Committee.

“Only about a third of us will be members during the 57th Legislature.  Writing and passing a balanced budget is one of the most important responsibilities lawmakers have,” Dossett said.  “I’m glad District 34 will have a voice at the table.”

“We must be good stewards of our natural resources and help promote and protect Oklahoma’s deep agriculture roots—still a major part of our economy,” Dossett said.  “And as a veteran, I am deeply honored to continue to represent my fellow veterans and active duty military as we undertake important policy decisions at the state level.  All of these are important to our district and our state and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve.”
