Sen. Chuck Hall named to key committees ahead of session

State Sen. Chuck Hall has been chosen for a committee leadership post for the 57th Legislature. Hall, R-Perry, will serve as Vice Chair of the Senate Finance Committee.  He’s also been appointed to the Full Appropriations Committee, the Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety and Judiciary, and the Senate Agriculture and Wildlife Committee.

In recent years, all members of the Senate have been members of the Appropriations Committee.  For the 57th Legislature, the committee has been streamlined to focus on members with finance, revenue and appropriations expertise.

“I’m extremely gratified to have a seat on the Appropriations Committee and to serve as vice chair for the Finance Committee.  The most important task of the Legislature is to write and pass a balanced budget.  Our work on the Finance committee involves the consideration of legislation which impacts state revenues, so it is all part of balancing our budget,” Hall said.  “Public safety is one of the core services of government and it impacts all our communities, so I look forward to my work on the Subcommittee on Public Safety and Judiciary.”

Hall was also pleased to be seated on the Senate Agriculture and Wildlife Committee.

“Whether you are talking about hunting and fishing, bringing in a wheat crop or running cattle, these are areas that reflect Oklahoma’s past, present and future,” Hall said.  “It’s part of our identity but we’re also talking about major components of our state’s economy.  “It’s extremely important to this district and to rural communities across our state.”

Over the next few weeks, members of the Senate will work to finalize legislation to be heard during the 2019 legislative session.  The deadline for filing bills is January 17.  While the Senate will convene for an organizational day on January 8, committees will not begin considering legislation until the Legislature reconvenes on February 4.
