Pugh honored with Quilt of Valor for his military service

OKLAHOMA CITY – The National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) honored Sen. Adam Pugh’s distinguished military career recently by presenting him with a Quilt of Valor. This unique honor is bestowed on military service members or veterans who have served in a war. Pugh, a U.S. Air Force veteran, flew in numerous operations throughout the Global War on Terror.

“This is an incredible, unexpected honor that I’m extremely humbled to have received. After 9/11, I had the distinct honor of protecting American airspace as part of the North American Air Defense mission, also known as NORAD. I have flown missions across the globe, and I understand that freedom is worth fighting for, on the battlefield and in the halls of our state Capitol,” Pugh said. “This is a beautiful program, and I’m grateful to the Daughters of the American Revolution for this special recognition.”

Pugh entered the USAF in July 2000, serving nearly eight years on active duty as an Electronic Combat Officer. As a former captain and aviator, he logged over 2,000 flying hours onboard the E-3 AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System). He also served as an Air Battle Manager, logging combat support missions and coordinating hundreds of U.S. and allied aircraft in missions in Iraq, the Balkans, Asia, and Eastern Europe. Pugh also served as Deputy Inspector General, Chief of Readiness and Inspections.

The quilt was presented by Tammy Ross, the Chapter Regent of the Cordelia Steen Chapter of the NSDAR. Pugh’s former Commander Col. Kim Conner, who is also a chapter member, assisted with the special presentation.

“It is a great privilege for the Cordelia Steen Chapter to honor State Senator Pugh for his service and leadership in our military Armed Forces,” Ross said.

The Quilts of Valor Foundation began in 2003, founded by Catherine Roberts whose son was deployed in Iraq, as a message of sincere gratitude for members’ service, sacrifice and valor to our nation. The organization has awarded nearly 24,000 quilts this year.

Pugh has also received numerous other accolades for his service, including the Joint Service Commendation Medal; the Joint Service Achievement Medal; the Joint Meritorious Unit Award; the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with one oak leaf cluster; the National Defense Service Medal; Electronic Combat Officer of the Year; and others.
