OKLAHOMA CITY The leader of the Oklahoma Senate and the chairman of the Senate Veterans and Military Affairs Committee issued statements in advance of the observance of Veterans Day:

One of the heroes in my life was my late grandfather, Selwyn Willis, who earned the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service during World War II. His story is a remarkable one, and its the same story of many other Oklahomans who answered the call to serve their nation. To all the brave Oklahomans who are serving or have served in the Armed Forces, and to their families, thank you for your sacrifice and all that you have done to protect and secure our freedom, saidSenate President Pro Tempore Greg Treat, R-Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma appreciates and values the brave women and men who serve across this nation and the globe. Because of their service and sacrifice, we are able to live in a free society. At the Oklahoma Senate, we will continue to pursue policies that support those who have served or are serving. To the service members and their families, thank you so much for your courage and bravery in defending our freedoms, saidSenator Frank Simpson, R-Springer, and chair of the Senate Veterans and Military Affairs Committee.
