A Weekly Update on all of the Good News about Oklahoma
Because much of the good news about our state is sometimes overlooked by state leaders and others, many positive developments and success stories in Oklahoma go unreported. It is our hope that "Oklahoma Pride," a weekly publication of the Oklahoma Senate, will ensure that the best stories about Oklahoma are told.
For example, this week in Oklahoma, did you know that......
For the second month in a row, Oklahoma led the nine-state Mid-America region in economic growth, according to a monthly business index prepared by Creighton University. In February, Oklahoma's economy performed better than the regional average of Arkansas, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska and North and South Dakota. Oklahoma has consistently led the region in the monthly business tracking reports for the past year.
A national trade publication is also hailing Oklahoma's phenomenal job growth. According to Governing magazine, Oklahoma ranked 9th in the nation in employment growth from October of 1995 to October of '96. That's ahead of Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, Colorado, Missouri and Louisiana.
Oklahoma's business-friendly property tax system is also getting rave reviews from the national media. The publication State Legislatures reported Oklahoma is one of only a handful of states where property taxes consume less than 3 percent of personal income. According to U.S. Census data, Oklahoma has the 48th lowest per capita property tax burden.
