"Oklahoma Pride"

A Weekly Update on all of the Good News about Oklahoma

Because much of the good news about our state is sometimes overlooked by state leaders and others, many positive developments and success stories in Oklahoma go unreported. It is our hope that "Oklahoma Pride," a weekly publication of the Oklahoma Senate, will ensure that the best stories about Oklahoma are told.

For example, this week in Oklahoma, did you know that......

Oklahoma is getting high marks for its small business climate. A recent study by the Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank ranked Oklahoma second in the region in growth of small business lending. OU economist Robert Dauffenbach says Oklahoma's quality labor force and tax structure favors small business, noting the state's tax burden is low for the region and far below the national average.

The Sooner state economy is continuing to outpace most competitors in mid-America. According to a monthly business survey by Creighton University, Oklahoma ranked second in economic growth in a nine-state region. With an overall index rating of 66 in April, Oklahoma was well ahead of most states around the country. The national index was 54. Oklahoma has consistently led its region in economic growth in 1997.
