OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Michael Brooks, D-Oklahoma City, and Rep. Arturo Alonso-Sandoval, D-Oklahoma City, attended a recent meeting at the White House as part of NewDEAL, a network of pro-growth, progressive state and local elected officials, including school board members, city and county officials, as well as state legislators and other statewide leaders.
“This organization is made up of moderates from across the country working together to find opportunities to build consensus and collaboration on issues that strengthen families and communities,” Brooks said. “At this meeting we looked at the historic investments that have been made at the state and local level through the American Rescue Plan, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Inflation Reduction Act, and other programs, as we explore ways to leverage those investments to the benefit of our citizens.”
Alonso-Sandoval helped lead a presentation on the impact of emerging technology.
"With all of the changes and challenges we are facing, it was uplifting to join the NewDEAL conference as a leader, joining other local policymakers to share solutions and discuss opportunities to improve the quality of life for all people,” said Alonso-Sandoval. “I had the pleasure of serving as a co-leader for a breakout session on artificial intelligence. I shared goals of the bipartisan interim study on the opportunities and challenges of AI that I recently hosted, and prospects on Democrats and Republicans working together to pass meaningful AI policy. Leaving this conference, I felt better equipped to innovate and guide my community, while feeling hopeful about the potential of our country to emerge stronger as we move forward."
