Kristen Thompson takes oath of office, begins service in Oklahoma Senate

OKLAHOMA CITY – Kristen Thompson has begun her first term in the Oklahoma Senate. The Edmond Republican was sworn in during a ceremony in the Senate Chamber on Wednesday, presided over by Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell, with Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justice Richard Darby administering the oath.  Thompson was joined by family and friends for the ceremony.

“For the past year, I’ve spoken with thousands of citizens throughout District 22 about their concerns and their hopes for our state.  They’re worried about inflation, access to health and mental health care, and want their children to receive the best education possible. My constituents want policies that promote job creation and strengthen our economy,” Thompson said.  “These are my priorities as I begin my service in the Senate.”

A native Oklahoman and mother of three, Thompson and her husband, Bryce have created and grown multiple businesses in the construction and hospitality industry, providing some 200 family-supporting jobs in the Oklahoma City metro area. She has also served on the Visit Edmond Tourism Advisory Board as the mayor appointed member-at-large, representing the restaurant industry, and volunteers on the youth sports subcommittee for Visit Edmond. The Thompson family has attended Frontline Church since 2012. Their children, Brice and Graham, attend Deer Creek Public Schools, while preschooler, Brooks, attends Holy Trinity Lutheran School in Edmond. 

The full Senate will meet on Jan. 3, 2023, to formally elect leadership for the chamber and adopt rules for the 59^th Legislature.  The 2023 session will formally get underway on Feb. 6.
