OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Jonathan Wingard, R-Ada, was sworn into the Oklahoma Senate on Wednesday. Wingard took his oath of office in the Senate chamber in a ceremony led by Sen. Brent Howard, the chamber’s chief presiding officer. Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justice M. John Kane IV administered the oath of office as Wingard’s family and friends watched.
Wingard was one of 14 new senators sworn in on Wednesday. Altogether, 26 senators, including those returning for new terms, took the oath of office.
Wingard was born and raised in Ada on his grandparents’ dairy farm. While serving in the Oklahoma Army National Guard for nearly 19 years, Wingard was deployed numerous times on active-duty missions. His military service included deployments in Kuwait and Afghanistan. Now, he owns and operates a meat-processing plant in Ada. Wingard and his partner, Ashley Wilson, have a son, Brian. Wingard also has an older daughter, Madison.
“I’m deeply grateful to all of my supporters across the state — especially Ashley; Brian; my parents, Travis and Jeannie; and Roger and Leigh Gaddis, who always believed in me,” Wingard said. “I’m humbled and honored that the people of Senate District 13 trusted me to fight for them at the state Capitol, and I’m ready and eager to get to work.”
The 60th session of the Oklahoma Legislature begins on Jan. 7, when both chambers will hold an organizational day to elect leaders and adopt legislative rules. The full, four-month legislative session will start Feb. 3.
Senate District 13 includes all of Pontotoc and Hughes counties and parts of Garvin, Murray and McClain counties.
