Brent Howard is now officially on the job as State Senator for District 38. The Altus Republican was sworn in during a ceremony at the Capitol on Wednesday as friends, family and other supporters looked on from the Senate Chamber.
“I want to thank the citizens of District 38 for entrusting me to be their voice in the Senate,” Howard said. “As a tax attorney and small business owner, I know that jobs are created in the private sector so I’ll work to fight overregulation and over taxation. I’ll promote legislation to grow our economy and support entrepreneurism, which will require strengthening our education system to ensure our students have the tools they need to be successful in whatever field they pursue.”
Howard is the fifth generation to live and work on the farmland homesteaded by his great-grandfather before Oklahoma statehood. He graduated from rural Navajo High School, Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma College of Law before also obtaining his Legal Masters in Taxation from New York University. Brent helps families as they plan for the future, helping Oklahomans navigate the complicated fields of tax law and estate planning.
Howard and his wife, Jennifer, are active member of the First United Methodist Church of Altus, the Young Farmers and Ranchers (YFR) organization within the Oklahoma Farm Bureau, and the Jackson County Republican Party. Brent is also a member of the Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee, is an Honorary Commander of the 54th ARS on Altus Air Force Base, is past Chairman of the Board of Regents for Western Oklahoma State College and Community Service Chair of Altus Rotary.
Senate President Pro Tempore Designate Greg Treat said he was looking forward to working with Howard.
“Senator Howard represents the core values that make Oklahoma great. His professional experience as a tax attorney and small business owner will be a tremendous asset to our caucus. I know Senator Howard will be a strong voice on behalf of District 38 in the State Senate,” said Treat, R-Oklahoma City.
The Senate will hold a one day organizational meeting on January 8, and the 2019 session will formally get underway on February 4.
