Hobson Says He’s Honored By Naming Of Cleveland County Health Department

(NORMAN) Senate President Pro Tempore Cal Hobson said Thursday he is “humbled and honored” by the designation of the new Cleveland County Health Department facility as the Cal Hobson Center.

The new $4 million center, which located on 12th Avenue SE in Norman, held an open house Thursday afternoon in conjunction with ceremonies honoring the 25-year legislative veteran from nearby Lexington.

Hobson said there are many others worthy of praise – including the 87 employees of the Cleveland County Health Department.

“I helped carry the ball in the Legislature, but the real heroes of this story are the doctors and nurses and aides who provide important health care services to the people of Cleveland County. The work they do in this tremendous new facility will have a direct impact on the quality of life of the people they serve and will continue to be an invaluable asset to our community.

“I am proud I could play a role in this project and I am humbled and honored that it bears my name,” Hobson said.

The Senate leader also praised Rep. Bill Nations, D-Norman, Cleveland County Commissioners George Skinner, Leroy Krohmer and Bill Graves, and Cleveland County Health Department Director Rod Huffman for their roles in the project.

“Without their leadership and dedication to the citizens they represent, this center would never have been possible,” Hobson said.

The facility was financed through a county bond issue that will be repaid using a legislative appropriation and a portion of county property taxes dedicated by the commissioners for public health.
