Senate President Pro Tempore Cal Hobson announced Thursday that Senator Ted Fisher will serve a second term as Majority Floor Leader. Hobson also named the other Senate members who will make up his leadership team for the 50th Oklahoma Legislature.
“Senator Fisher’s organizational skills and fairness have maintained a level of order and decorum in the Senate that many other legislative bodies do not enjoy. His counsel has been an asset to me and his leadership has been invaluable to the Senate. I am very pleased that I will have him at my side for the next two years,” said Hobson, D-Lexington.
In addition to Fisher, D-Sapulpa, and Appropriations Committee Chairman Mike Morgan, D-Stillwater, Hobson said seven other Senators would round out his leadership team.
Senator Gilmer Capps, D-Snyder, and Angela Monson, D-Oklahoma City, will each continue to serve as Assistant Majority Floor Leaders. Both served in that capacity in the 49th Oklahoma Legislature.
“Leadership is a valuable quality in government and both Senator Capps and Senator Monson have demonstrated their ability to serve as leaders over the last two years. I’m looking forward to working with them again as we move our state forward,” Hobson said.
Senator Robert Kerr, D-Altus, Senator Jeff Rabon, D-Hugo, and Senator Jay Paul Gumm, D-Durant, have also been named as Assistant Majority Floor Leaders. Senator-elect Susan Paddack, D-Ada, will serve as Majority Whip. Senator Kenneth Corn, D-Poteau, will serve as Democratic Caucus Chairman.
“Senators Kerr and Rabon bring a wealth of experience to our leadership team while Senators Gumm, Corn and Paddack represent the next generation of leaders in Oklahoma. I’m thrilled that each of them has agreed to take on the responsibilities of leadership,” Hobson said.
