Daniel Webster selected to serve on Oklahoma's Rural Broadband Expansion Council

Northeastern Oklahoma native Daniel Webster was selected by President Pro Tempore of the Oklahoma Senate Greg Treat, R-Oklahoma City, to serve as a member of the Rural Broadband Expansion Council to represent the interests of rural business enterprises.

The 14-member council was created during the 2020 legislative session by Senate Bill 1002 and House Bill 4018 to study rural broadband access in the state and determine costs for improving access.

Webster has spent his 15-year career focusing on rural issues in energy, economic development and telecommunications. He currently serves as the chief executive officer of the Northeast Oklahoma Electric Cooperative, providing insight and direction for its subsidiary business that provides fiber internet, television and telephony services to rural Oklahomans in Ottawa, Delaware, Mayes and Craig counties.

“Oklahoma currently ranks 47th in the United States when it comes to rural broadband access, leaving our citizens—especially our children—behind those in other states,” said Sen. Micheal Bergstrom, R-Adair. “We must invest in our broadband connectivity so all Oklahomans have the ability to prosper and succeed in a world driven by advanced technologies. Daniel’s background makes him a clear choice to lead our state down this path, and I’m thrilled he was selected to serve on the Rural Broadband Expansion Council.”
