Burns Introduces Legislation to make State Parks more accessible to Oklahomans

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. George Burns, R-Pollard, has introduced Senate Bill 1253 to make State Parks in Oklahoma more accessible and affordable for state residents. This legislation, if passed, would allow the Commission to establish an annual pass or other varied passes as appropriate to the park for visitors, while also removing fees for Oklahomans.

Under this bill, Oklahomans who provide proof of residency such as a state driver license, or state identification, birth certificate or other form of authorized identification would not be charged entrance, day-use fees, annual pass, or other pass fees established by the Commission.

“Oklahoma taxpayers are already helping fund our amazing state parks,” Burns said. “They deserve to see those dollars at work and enjoy the benefits of them. By removing these fees for state residents more Oklahoma families will have access to the beauty and serenity of our State Parks.”

Additionally, the bill seeks to protect the rights of campers and ensure efficient management of camp sites within State Parks.

“Senate Bill 1253 aims to ensure that campgrounds are used in a manner that respects reservations and provides fair opportunities for all campers to enjoy our state's natural beauty,” Burns said. “By establishing clear guidelines and penalties for violators, we can uphold the integrity of campground reservations and enhance the overall camping experience for visitors.”

SB 1253 is available to be considered.
