Burns Introduces Bill to Support Oklahoma Route 66 Commission

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. George Burns, R-Pollard, has introduced Senate Bill 1412, a measure aimed at bolstering tourism initiatives in the state. This bill would allocate sales tax revenue to support the vital work of the Oklahoma Route 66 Commission and enhance tourism promotion and capital improvement efforts statewide.

SB 1412 seeks to allocate the first $6.6 million of sales tax revenue to the Oklahoma Route 66 Commission Revolving Fund, providing essential funding for the preservation, promotion, and development of historic Route 66 attractions and destinations.

SB 1412 also outlines a strategic allocation plan for sales tax revenue exceeding $6.6 million. Under this proposed legislation, any sales tax revenue above the initial $6.6 million threshold will be apportioned to the Oklahoma Tourism Promotion Revolving Fund (36%) and the Oklahoma Tourism Capital Improvement Revolving Fund (64%).

“Tourism is a vital industry that contributes significantly to our state's economy and cultural heritage,” Burns said. “Senate Bill 1412 will ensure that we allocate resources effectively to support tourism promotion, infrastructure development, and the preservation of iconic landmarks like Route 66.”

SB 1412 is available to be considered.
