The State Senate unanimously passed a mining bill on Monday that prevents the needless waste of municipalities’ time and resources in the process of reconsidering mining permits.
Senator Brian Bingman, R-Sapulpa, authored Senate Bill 706 that allows municipalities the right to limit consideration of certain mining requests. SB 706 helps ensure that city resources are not wasted by reviewing the same application over and over again after it has already been denied.
Through this legislation, municipalities can but are not required to reconsider mining permits unless there is a material change in the application.
Bingman praises the passage of Senate Bill 706 saying, “This legislation provides a way for government to be more efficient with our state’s time and resources. It is encouraging to see bipartisan support on a bill that allows our cities to effectively benefit our state.”
Senate Bill 706 now awaits the Governor’s signature to become law.
