OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Sen. Micheal Bergstrom visited Wilson Elementary School in Miami on Friday, March 1 in celebration of Read Across America Day. Wilson Elementary was one of several stops the Adair legislator made in recognition of the day designated to motivate children to read.
“Motivating children to love reading is crucial to student achievement and better success in school,” said Bergstrom. “I enjoyed visited with the 3K class at Wilson Elementary and I thank Kaci Hoffer for inviting me to join her students in celebration of Read Across America Day, complete with Green Grinch juice and Cat In the Hat cookies.”
Each year schools, bookstores, libraries, hospitals and organizations partner with Read Across America events and activities in communities across the country. Children’s book author Dr. Seuss, also known as Theodor Seuss Geisel, died in 1991 before Read Across America Day was created but his career and works are honored each year on the day. Many schools and libraries celebrate Read Across America Day with universally-recognized components from Dr. Seuss’ works, including green eggs and ham.
