OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – State Senator Micheal Bergstrom joined Bluejacket High School Junior Justin Herlan at the 104th Annual Oklahoma Youth Expo on Tuesday, March 19 at the State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City.
Herlan, who has earned many honors for his care and presentation of various cattle breeds including Maine, Angus, Hereford, Shorthorn and Chianina, is recognized as a leader around the state in the area of agriculture and livestock, winning numerous Top 10 awards for excellence in the field of agriculture and livestock.
“I had a blast showing Justin Herlan's cow, Miss Chief, this week. I know it's a cow, but I felt I needed to try to communicate with her, so I talked to her throughout our walk-about. Call me crazy, but I think it calms an animal when you speak to it in a friendly tone,” said Bergstrom. “I was also pleased to see Kelsey Wall. Representative Rusty Cornwell’s wife, Sherri, showed Kelsey's cow and he and I presented the kids with citations. It was a fun night, plus I think Miss Chief and I got to be friends.”
The legacy of the Oklahoma Youth Expo has traditionally provided the youth of Oklahoma an opportunity to compete with others from around the state in the livestock event. Today, the Oklahoma Youth Expo is known as the largest youth event in in the state.
